The Istana is located on a southwestern tip of Bali, in an area named The Bukit. This five suite estate overlooks white sand beaches and a lagoon abundant with sea life and coral, and in the evenings, magical sunsets. With the property located so close to the holy Pura Uluwatu , one of island’s nine mother temples, the site is spiritually inspiring and undeniably unique. The staffing is of luxury hotel level with restaurant-standard food, a live-in manager and butler service, all devoted to facilitating intimate service among private splendor.

Set back forty meters from the cliff face, The Istana sits within a tremendous gated property and is composed of two swimming pools, a relaxation bale, a private guest house (containing the master bedroom), and a main house. Within the main house is a living room, dining room, entertainment room (known as the Dotcom room), and four identical bedroom suites. Both of the buildings are single-story and open-air with rich teakwood floors, inspiring a natural ambiance, while maintaining and accentuating the spectacular view. The overall style is a medley between understated modern architecture and traditional Indonesian detailing, with features that blend Indonesian materials and workmanship. The artwork represents a mixture of primitive art and antiques originating from Indonesia , keeping with the aura of tradition and style.

Two symmetrical wings attached to the living room accommodate the bar and dining room to the left, and the Dotcom room to the right. Both rooms are slightly separated from the rest of the space, and are fully paneled internally and externally with teakwood, evoking a warm comfortable feel. The impressive dining room table consists of one solid slab of teakwood, and easily seats ten. This air-conditioned area is enclosed by four sets of swinging glass doors that can be opened if desired, and overlooks the lily gardens to one side, and the expanse of the ocean to the other. The specially designed lighting fixtures in the dining room offer an intimate atmosphere, complimented by the meditative sounds of the water feature in the garden.

Wine & Dine

The Istana boasts a dining service better than most restaurants, and the menu features a wonderful array of dishes. Many Western meals are available, but we recommend you to try some of the Balinese dishes for a unique cultural experience!

Lunch & Dinner Special Menus
A number of special lunch and dinner menus are offered, which require a day’s notice to the chef in order to make arrangements.

Dinner parties and functions can all catered to – please ask the chef or manager for more details at any time of the day, whether you are requesting breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snacks.

For your convenience, as with all charges, food & beverage charges will be billed to your final account and payable in total upon checkout.

Special Requests & Dietary Requirements
Should you have a request for a dish not on the menu, or a special dietary requirement, please feel free to ask the chef, who will strive to comply with all of your wishes. Special items that need to be purchased and billed to you at cost plus 30%. (Staff will present receipts as proof of purchase and add to your final bill)

Large Dining Groups
If you have a large group it is advisable that the group dines on the same dish or that you order several dishes to be shared. Please allow at least one day’s notice, and feel free to discuss any requirements with the chef or villa manager.

If you prefer to do your own cooking, please do not hesitate to make use of the kitchen facilities yourself. We encourage you to consider The Istana home during your stay.

The Istana has a stock of soft drinks, beers, spirits, wines and champagnes. Please click the beverage menu underneath to se the complete beverage list. All beverages are charged per drink tat you order, except for wine which is charged per bottle. Please also ask the staff if you have any special beverage orders and they will accommodate your needs. Special items that need to be purchased separately will be purchased and billed to you at cost plus 30%.

Staff

The staff of The Istana is trained at the luxury hotel level. The group is comprised of a live-in villa manager, an assistant manager, two chefs, three butlers, maids and housekeeping staff, a chauffer and around-the-clock security. All are devoted to facilitating intimate service and to ensure every stay at The Istana is most memorable and enjoyable.

Full time manager
The villa manager of The Istana, along with the assistant manager, is responsible for the overall operation of The Istana including staffing, special requests and ensuring guest satisfaction. Guests can reach the manager 24 hours a day.

Food & Beverage Staff
The chefs at The Istana have developed a wonderful in-house menu with gourmet food standard. The chefs are happy to accommodate any special requests or dietary needs. Dinner parties and events can be catered to.

Housekeeping Staff
Three butlers and several housekeepers are in charge of maintaining the 5-star standard of cleanliness and tidiness at The Istana. The team is also helping the chefs in food preparations and servings.

Security Staff
The Istana is safe and secure 24 hours a day. Rotating shifts of six security staff work at the security post by the front gate. There will always be a senior staff member on duty 24 hours a day.
